Hi there,
this is Big Ernie and I am writing this in reply to earlier comments. Firstly I would like to thank you for the feedback as it is very valuable and we always like to take action to fix any faults.
In the case of the meal on friday night, I personally was drinking at the bar with another customer. I noticed you were unhappy and asked if there was any problems, you replied that the you had been waiting a long time and when the food arrived it was cold. I promptly asked the waitress to ensure that fresh hot meals were bought out and served ASAP. I also offered you platter to share, which you declined. I then offered you free drinks again which you declined. At this point I said how important it was to me , that customers left my restaurant in a happy mood. I then went to the kitchen and ensured the chefs dealt with your food order. Your food was served again within 10 mins. After a couple of minutes I enquired if everything was ok, to which you replied yes.
On completion of the meal I again apologised and offered free deserts as again it was important to me that you enjoyed the evening.
After the meal you carried on chatting for quite a long time and I felt everything was fine. You then paid the bill in full. I opened the door and thanked you for coming. Again I thought everthing was fine.
Now I must answer the further allegations. Firstly I am sorry if you found me intimidating, as this is not the way I like to be perceived. I'm not sure why you felt intimidated as all along I was offering you free food and drinks.
As to the other incident, I would like to state that we have no security /enforcers as you describe them working at any time in the diner as they have never been required. We have NEVER had a single incident of violence or for that case any reports of drugs in Big Ernies .On the night mentioned the police did not visit the diner, which I would have thought was the first place for them to visit if they thought I had ordered someone to assault you and as I said ,you had paid the bill in full, so why would I even want someone to assault you.
I will state that if anything happened to you after you left the diner, it happened without my knowledge and was in no way connected to Big Ernies Diner.
I hope this has resolved the issue.
Ernie |

| Nice try, it seems mouse-83@O2.pl is in some sort of relation to Mr. Ernie himself, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to that comment. Don't use your email if you don't want to get rumbled! |

We went to Big Ernies last night!
NEVER AGAIN! ASSAULTED FOR COMPLAINING!. We had had nearly an hour wait for food, which when it came was stone cold. We spoke to the manager, who was quite intimidating, but we took it that he was trying to be helpful. We said we just wanted our food to be hot. It was reordered, and when we finally got it was very nice. We turned down the offer of free dessert, as it was quite late by thi time, and as we had missed the event we were going on to, decided to just go home. We paid in full, and when the manager asked if we'd enjoyed the meal as we left my husband said it was very nice, eventually. However after we left and were walking down a dark sidestreet, a man who later said he was a "friend" of the manager, (giving the impression he was some kind of bouncer/protection) chased down the street after us, pushed my pensioner mother, who is disabled with rhuematoid arthritis, grabbed my daughter around the waist from behind, frightening her, and physically lifted her out of the way, to, in his words, "get through them to get to him" (my husband)pushed my daughters boyfriend aside, and then got into my husbands face and started threatening him. He then started verbally abusing my daughter, and pushed my mother again!!!!!! We called the police before either my husband or daughters boyfriend hit him, He refused to leave us alone even knowing they were on the way. When the police arrived, they discovered he was high on drugs, and said to think about pressing charges for assault. The man and restaurant now have a file, and will be monitered for further violent/drug related incidents. My other daughters birthday was ruined, and needless to say, we will NEVER, go there again. And I would advise everyone else not to either. |

Friend of mine attended to attempt the big Earnie's challenge, but felt slightly cheated when the meal it's self did not match the meal that was advertised on this website.
For one, there was FAR too much lettuce at the time than was advertised on this site. Secondly, the agreement clearly states that if you finish it within an hour, the meal is half price. When he enquired about this he was told that he had to finish it within the 45 minute and there was no other offer.
In short, I feel that you should either sort out your website to actually match the challenge or just admit that you've been conning your customers Earnie.
Despite all of this I would like the record to show that we received excellent table treatment and the waitresses were delightful at their job. The food it's self was also exquisite and I would recommend it.
Regards,
Dave Pietersen |

My husband and I wanted to treat our little boy to a special Milkshake and a burger and fries, and so we wrapped up as warm as we could, layyered up the children and trekked half way across Portsmouth to visit yyou, we got to you at around 14.30 on Thursday this week and you were closed!!!!! I checked your website before we headed out, and there are no opening hours on here, but I saw that you have a brunch menu that you run from 11am-3pm, so I presumed you would be open!!! I am only telling you this so that you can update your website with the hours advertised on the door 5-10. |

Hi, a group of around 8 of us are looking to come down and attempt 'ernie's challenge' in January.
Can we just walk in or will we need to book in advance for this? |

Dear Zoe,
I'm very sorry you were dissappointed with your visit to my diner, as it is very important to me that everyone enjoys their visit.
I've got to say the feedback from the customers about the deserts are normally very good and we pride ourselves on our customer service. The sunday you were was a very busy day as we are open from 11 am and we get a lot of families spending their sunday afternoon with us and as you pointed out there was only one other table in at the same time as yourselves, my girls were probably a little tired and maybe let the standard that I normally expect slip.
Please feel free to contact me on my atttached email address and I will personally make you the best desert on the south coast absoloutly FREEEEE ! ))

A group of 12 of us went to Big Ernies last night, the starters were ok, mains were quite nice, however my boyfriend and I decided to share the chocolate, vanilla brownie and walnut sunday. When it came out we were supprised by how big it was but we soon realised it was nearly all wipped cream, 1 scoop of chocolate and 2 scoops of vanilla and lots of walnuts, we had about 4 or 5 tiny pieces of brownie in our entire desert so for £6.95 we were very dissapointed. We spoke to the waitress who was very rude she had an attitude then walked off.
The service wasn't very good, the waitresses were rude, and we had to prompt them to take our orders, mains and deserts and for the bill, we were 1 of 2 tables in the resturant so I don't know what took so long?!?! None of our group will be going there again as a result. |
